'long ranger' for 'lone ranger'

A bit of boomer nostalgia and maybe more nearly a mondegreen than an eggcorn. ‘The Lone Ranger’ was an extremely popular TV cowboy show of the ‘50’s. In the opening credits it sounded as though the announcer was saying, ‘the long ranger rides again!’ At age 9, I assumed that the ‘long ranger’ was either: 1) very tall, or 2) willing to travel widely in his pursuit of wrongdoers. The substitution is quite common, at least a few thousand instances:

COWBOYS WE LOVEDCOWBOYS. Hopalong Cassidy Gene Autry and Topper and Champion. Roy Rogers and Trigger Long Ranger and Silver.

In his first talking film he played a cowboy, and he couldn’t ride a horse. Now he can ride and rope like the Long Ranger.

He also has a sidekick like the long Ranger’s Tonto;
