'crunch of the matter' for 'crux of the matter'

The database already has ‘crutch of the matter.’ This one is a little farther away form the original in sound, but closer in sense. 4,000+ ghits:

Re: 'crunch of the matter' for 'crux of the matter'

Good one, klakritz! Maybe they’re thinking of crunch in the sense of “crunching numbers”. Just a thought. I especially enjoy the example you provided about the gospels. The user had the best possible contextual nudge, yet still chose crunch- too funny!

Re: 'crunch of the matter' for 'crux of the matter'

I encountered this one just a few minutes ago:

The humor mostly derived from the witty dialogue and banter between the four unique characters and yes the special effects and set pieces were great but those were the cherry on cake not the crutch of the movie like this one appears to be.

“Crutch” for “crux” makes a lot of sense in this particular context.
