beet red -> beat red

“was beet red” yields 17,300 Google hits. “was beat red” yields 3,720 Google hits. Only a few of the latter hits occur in the context of fighting or other kinds of beating, thus this appears to be a genuine eggcorn.

Also, the variant “beat red” has at least a pair of interpretations: red as though from being smacked (or similar); red from exhaustion.
