"Littleput" for "Lilliput"

Hi everyone,

A short while ago, I said that I’ll post again if I recall anything. Well, I vaguely recall seeing some kind of motivational poster which was proudly displayed at the main entrance of our office building some years ago. :-)

You remember the story of “Guilliver’s Travels”? Gulliver ended up on a strange island called Lilliput, after a shipwreck. The people there were only six inches tall … little people.

I forgot the details of the poster but it showed Gulliver with the tiny inhabitants of “Littleput”.

Regards,

Re: "Littleput" for "Lilliput"

Welcome back Primes. Although the proposed eggcorn may have some merit to it, I’m always a bit wary of any modifications of proper nouns—and particularly those drawn from literature. Swift may very well have penned the group name “Lilliputian” with “little” (or “l’il”) in mind. So, this would largely steal the thunder of any reshapings along those lines.

Yup, he may have indeed done so. Good point. :-)
