Saw this one by chance. I started making a blog entry on it, but before I publish it, was hoping on of the heavy hitters could look it over and make sure it’s up to standards. It’s under “cede”.
Thanks,

Welcome to the Eggcorn site Chris, and sorry I missed your entry earlier.
I wouldn’t consider myself a “heavy hitter,” but at least by posting something I’ll have moved your post back into the active queue for others to see.
I’m not quite sure what you meant when you said…
It’s under “cedeâ€.
There’s an entry in the Eggcorn Database on “deep-seeded” by I haven’t previously seen “deep-ceded.”
Eggcorns require an imagery that is distinct from the parent word. Perhaps we need to discuss the imagery of “deep-ceded,” because I’m drawing a total blank on it.

Chris,
you should go ahead and post—at least a portion of—what you intended to blog. We can parse it out and make sense of it for you. The main thing is: identify the imagery of “deep-ceded” so we can take a step in the right direction.

Chris—If you mean that you’ve started a Database article on this and are waiting to get to the “publish” step, I’m afraid that it probably won’t work. The site owner (a different Chris W.) has disabled the publish function for all but a tiny handful of gatekeepers. But if you mean something else entirely, then don’t mind me….

Yes, I meant that, Pat. I didn’t even try to publish, because I figured it wasn’t up to standards. In the publishing guidelines, it says that if you start the blog article, one of the more advanced (gatekeepers, in your terminology) will edit it and publish it.
For imagery, deep-ceded could be thought of as “deeply recessed”, i.e. the tendency has deeply receded inside the body. I’m not sure if that’s the case, or if the writers were just unaware.
Although I originally didn’t have an idea for if the imagery was there, I now used my above statement as thus:
Like “deep-seeded”, “deep-ceded” is homophonous with “deep-seated”. The eggcorn could have been thought of as “deeply recessed”, i.e. the tendency has “deeply receded” inside the body. I’m not sure if that’s the case, or if the writers were just unaware. A Google search shows that it is not nearly as popular as “deep-seeded”.
Thanks for the comments,

I think there may be some merit to the eggcorn. I’ve got 37 unique Google hits where over half of them intend the meaning that Chris Weimar suggests…
