Stare decisis is the legal doctrine of precedent. I’ll leave it for the J.D. eggcornologists out there to decide whether decisions from ‘higher’ courts suggest an astronomical interpretation. It’s fairly common:
This has been decided starry decisis by the supreme court.

And the fact is, you know, you can believe in starry decisis and still drop Roe v Wade. ... Starry decisis is basically saying that you respect precedent.

... uncertain where precisely where they would come down in balancing the principle of starry decisis with the violence done to it when Roe was decided.

What about starry decisis? Doesn’t that count for anything? It counts a lot in the eyes of the lower courts.

Hi Ken,

Jorkel—Well, you can chalk one up (or chock one up) for your favorite search engine. Earlier today, I also thought Ken had already posted “starry decisis,” but when I searched Google Search on the home page, I got nuthin’. So I gave it up, and was surprised when you came up with the date. But there it is on the Forum Search page. Weirdly, I’m still getting nothing on the Google Search page, which should now be returning two hits. Hmmnnnhhh…. It looks like you have to use both engines to get the fullest coverage possible, and even then I think there are some forum posts that don’t come up.
