"denigh" for "deny"

I saw this the other day on Slashdot, and I thought I’d post it for discussion.

I’m guessing that the writer was interpreting “deny” as de-”nigh”, to make something no longer be close (and therefore inaccessible).

There are several examples on Google, the most obvious of which is a band named “Deneigh” (which may be unrelated).
http://www.denigh.com/ (the band)
http://users.dhp.com/~pball/trueplay.html “how many of us can denigh the rush we get hearing that .68 caliber paintball wizz by our masks at 200 mph?”
http://www.buildingofthebeast.com/2005/ … ay-factor/ “Many christians today have no idea that there is prophecy of the three temples. Many even denigh the fact. But The temple mount is the center of all prophecy and conflict between the Isralies and Muslims.”

The last example I’m linking is interesting, in that the writer uses “denigh” throught his response to someone who spells “deny” correctly.

From my quick search it seems that most of the people who do this are strongly religious (many Christian or Jewish forum posts). Perhaps this explains their use of “nigh” to mean close, since it’s used fairly frequently in the Bible but not often in other texts?

Anyway, I hope this rates well as a first submission =)
