DOOMSDAYER (Doomsayer)

We’re all familiar with the notion of “Doomsday” being the Judgment day. And, a “doomsayer” is one who might provide forebodings in general. So, it’s not unexpected that the word “doomsdayer” might arise out of the two. The Meriam-Webster online dictionary dates the word to 1972. Although it derives from legitimate linguistic rules, it strikes me as more of an eggcorn than a conscious modification.
