"Light Saber" for "lifesaver"

My son came up with this one when I told my husband he was a “lifesaver.” My son thought I called him a “Light Saber.” I guess that would work!—K

Re: "Light Saber" for "lifesaver"

I was going to post the reverse of this eggcorn in an independent thread, but I guess I’ll just tack it on here.

Tonight, being Halloween, I had the opportunity to observe costumes with light sabers, and hear my son refer to them as “life savers.” This made a lot of sense as an eggcorn. First of all, a child doesn’t understand what a saber is, and second, one would indeed use a light saber to save one’s own life. Whence, “life saver.” Delightful!

I was also quite pleased to hear an eggcorn where not one but two words were modified. (Recall my previous comment about “crap shoot”).
