My 80-something aunt, who speaks with a Yiddish accent, considers “Alzheimer’s” to be pronounced “Oldtimers”—which naturally makes sense: “Alz” sounds much like the German “alt” for “old.”
And she’s apparently not alone in this pronouncement:
“Some people mistakenly call this condition “oldtimer’s disease.”
