'venal disease' for 'venereal disease'

Some people write ‘venal disease’ when they intend ‘venous disease,’ but this substitution is more eggcornish. Examples:

Shall we really believe he has not caught a serious venal disease while bedding one whore after another…

And “venial disease” gets a dozen unique hits. Though I wonder whether some of these aren’t spellchecker artifacts.
