'For all intensive purposes' instead of 'For all intents and purposes'

I’m surprised this hasn’t been submitted before..?
Ashamed to say I used to confidently use the first version.

Welcome to the forum, Roxy.

“Intensive purposes” has been submitted many times, but it’s already in the Database here: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/english/32 … -purposes/

The “Search” menu option above works best if you enter a single word in the space available for a “keyword search”. In this case the word intensive generates a long list.

Re: 'For all intensive purposes' instead of 'For all intents and purposes'

My siblings and I loved this one; we ran around saying it quite clearly – with full enunciation – on purpose. And always with a straight face. In fact, it would not surprise me if the three of us (my little sis was too young) for convincing several folks in small-town Iowa that this was the proper wording.

I’m not sure why it amused us so. But it did.
