'addition' for 'edition'

‘First addition’ and ‘second addition’ each get over 20,000 ghits. ‘Second addition’ is especially eggcornish; you publish a book, add some new material, and publish a ‘second addition.’ Examples:

I read the first addition of this book and was blown away by the bad advice, sexual innuendos, and not-so-cute in-jokes.

Not only is the book in question a first addition, but it’s also a first printing.

I’m using the first addition of the book, published way back in 2002.

This second addition book brings necessary information and skills to meet the challenges of IEP process.

This book is described as the second addition to Kozhov (1963).

It’s an excellent book. ... I would LOVE to see a second addition that covers PDO and SPL.

This book bills itself as “the definitive XML resource: ... Many of the latest W3C standards have been added to this second addition.

Re: 'addition' for 'edition'

Spotted just now in an email:

“Readers;

“Welcome to another addition of the Blackwater Tactical Weekly. As we try to remain relevant in today’s environment, we are always looking for ways to make the BTW better.”
