1590 google hits, mostly used the same way. They seem to have combined delved with dwelled, a sense of deep digging into a subject with a bit of immersion perhaps. You’re delving deep into something and dwelling in it or on it.

Odd one, Craig. ‘Dwelve’ yields 829 unique hits all of which are used in the sense you suggest, including Urban Dictionary definitions. I found the following following citation interesting:
