(Another) Mark Peters eggcorn article

Today’s Language Log included a pointer to a new Mark Peters column about eggcorns: http://www.goodmagazine.com/section/Sti … n_eggcorns

It’s an introduction to the concept, so there are few revelations—but his stance will seem both familiar and welcome to forum regulars, and the article includes a short section on historical eggcorns.

Re: (Another) Mark Peters eggcorn article

The “cockroach” item made me think of all of the many place names in the U.S. that are essentially eggcorns, mis-repeated native American words Anglicized. Then I started thinking about all of the place names in the U.K. that are eggcorns. Watching my favorite U.K. show “Time Team,” they sometimes give the history of place names and they are often eggcornish.
