'bobbling for apples' for 'bobbing for apples'

This is inspired by the recent discussion of apple bobbing under the entry for duck/dunk. It’s the apple that’s bobbling while you bob for it, but close enough. 100+ghits:

... Halloween growing up and passing on the fun traditions of dressing up in costume, bobbling for apples (germs and all) and trick or treating.

The games were fish toss and bobbling for apples.

You can also take a large galvanized bucket and play bobbling for apples…

Re: 'bobbling for apples' for 'bobbing for apples'

“Bopping for apples” also gets 84 raw hits. Maybe people are thinking of the squirming that the non-submerged parts of a bobber’s body do while bobbing. Or maybe speakers are just anticipating that unvoiced stop in “apples.”
