I only have one anecdote for this one, but it’s a perfect eggcorn. My colleague asked via email: “Does anyone have a large key change for our student workers to use? They keep taking our key to class, so we really need to get a bigger key change.”

I guess the imagery could be “that thing you change out your keys on”! This reminds me of one I submitted a while back (ramsack for ransack), that I, too, heard first person. The thing that makes key change a little difficult is trying to isolate it on any google searches. “key change” brings up 645,000 hits. Out of the ones I was able to briefly inspect, they had to do with a “key change” in music, or “key change” as in “vital change”. Perhaps you or others could spend a little time on it and try to bring back some examples of your submission. It has a good chance, and if some examples “in the wild” can be brought back, it should be a shoe-in. Thanks!
