Perhaps some people are totally unfamiliar with the term “wading.” So, a “wading pool” might be mistaken to be a “waiting pool”—a pool where kids wait while the adults use the big pool.

When I was a kid, I thought it was the “waiting” pool—because the moms all waited on the sides while the little kids played in the shallow water.
It took me a long time to figure out the word “wading”—and even longer to realize that it applied to the “pool”—proof to me, now, that eggcorns persist because they are so THOROUGHLY accepted.
