"We had a rat amounts us"

My dad saw this in a discussion group for wireless SD memory cards:

“A few years ago I had a roommate that stole out other roommates checkbook. He bough pizza and stuff with it but made the mistake of having everything delivered back to our house. It didn’t take long for us to figure out we had a rat amounts us and a dumb rat at that. Ahhh good times, dumb people are natures straight man.”

Apparently the rat was not amongst them though, and that at least must have been comforting!

Re: "We had a rat amounts us"

Nice. It would be nice to find some other examples though, especially if they were from the same person. With one example like this, I would suspect a typo like amonst (leaving out the g) followed by a spell-checker correction.

I tried googling but gave up pretty quick (no time right now)—it’s not straightforward to find other examples if they’re out there. Some of you more ingenious or more persistent ones may well find them.

Re: "We had a rat amounts us"

As David allows, a typo seems more likely than a reshaping. There are at least two other typos in the text (out for our and bough for bought, plus two missing apostrophes), making a third (amounts for amongst) not at all unexpected.

Re: "We had a rat amounts us"

It’s true. I tried searching for “amongst” and then chose a few common phrases using that word, then replaced it with “amounts” and searched Google for the phrases with the replacement. I found
