A few people, perhaps independently, have backformed a transliteration of pseudo-yiddish on this word of pioneer origin. Google finds three hits:
“Legally Google can not be in kohutz with Yahoo.”
“Gypsys talked to the Devil and were in kohutz with him”
“I can [sic !] help but think that the timeshare companies and RPR are somehow in kohutz together regarding poor real estate deals everywhere in Florida”

I believe what we are seeing here is not an eggcorn because, despite the Yiddish-like spelling, there is no alternate imagery put in place. It is more than likely a case of ear spelling of a word people have heard but never read.
