bridemade << bridemaid

A common misspelling for “bride(s)maid” is “bride(s)made.” I can’t think of any compelling reason to call this an eggcorn.

But what about the phrase “bride(s)made dress(es)?” Thousands of ghits for this. Bridemaid dresses are often made by the bride’s dressmaker (although the custom in my part of the world is that the poor bridemaids have to pay the dressmaker for their outfits). Alternately, the style and color of the bridemaid dresses are usually a decision made by the bride.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Re: bridemade << bridemaid

I wore an actual bride-made dress.

I don’t think this is an actual eggcorn real people end up w/, but it is a fun joke.
