I’ve heard this one a number of times. It’s obviously a cross between “lax” and “lackadaisical”. Is that what some of you refer to as a “blend”, or is that something else?

Yes, a good blend. Eggcornlike in that it changes imagery and is certainly standard for a lot of people. I don’t mind calling it an eggcorn.
A “cross between” is a perfectly good name, but a “blend” is probably more standard, and ties it to similar kinds of phenomena at other levels (phrasal blends, syntactic blends, etc. Semantic blending is ubiquitous: in my view it’s the very mechanism by which we connect concepts when we think.)
btw and fwiw, it’s been discussed several times on the site. Go to the Eggcorn Database page and use the google search on “laxadaisical”.

Ohhhhh, I didn’t realize that the Google search function on this site could be used to search only the site itself, so I hadn’t tried it before. I’d only looked at the “Browse Eggcorns” list to see if the word had already been listed, but that list is clearly woefully incomplete.

I like this one. I’m tempted to just start using it. If I didn’t have kids (who will learn these idiots-er, idioms-only by hearing them), I would.

Well, I have on occasion said “Alack-a-dayâ€. But I tend to repeat odd things I’ve heard or read, for fun.
