New to this

Hi, I am new to this but the idea of eggcorns fascinates me. I stumbled on one on the internet today, don’t know if anyone has found it yet…

“Tajma Hall” or “Tashma Hall” for “Taj Mahal”

I thought this one was funny. Here is a quote

“The next morning we were ready to meet our driver for our tour of the town and of Tashma Hall, followed by getting on our train.” (http://worldfaithtour.blogspot.com/2007/05/india.html)

I may return in the future and post more, or this may be a one-shot deal, we’ll see.

That’s great, ilpirata! Makes perfect sense: the Hall of the Tashmas (whoever they are)! Welcome to the forum.

Feeling quite combobulated.

Re: New to this

Welcome, Italian pirate. You have found a new one. Good start. I found “Tajma Hall” and “Tashma Hall” at several places on the web where eggcorning seems to be at work. Some samples below.

Flikr caption to Taj Mahal picture: “india tajma hall” (http://www.flickr.com/photos/19725893@N00/page5/)

jamaica traveling tips forum: “i am from jamaica..so i think i may be able to help you out a bit..for night life/restaurant..you can try Magaritaville, also the tajma hall*(sp) shopping centre” (http://boards.msn.com/Travelboards/thre … eadid=1859)

Transcript of science video on government of Canada site: “It was a big side trawler and it was the Tajma Hall compared to anything that people had used before. ” (http://www.science.gc.ca/default.asp?la … D9FBA653-1) [The person speaking on the video says “Taj Mahal” correctly-it is the person doing the transcript who gets it wrong]

Sports forum: “I am not looking for the tashma hall let alone anything spectacular. I just want a decent nieghborhood and a quality house.
