recoop vs. recoup (why not recupe? for recuperate)

I couldn’t find this in the database; I can’t believe I’m the first to see it? Do I not know how to search?

(and why isn’t the short slang form of “recuperate” “recupe”?)

From my chat forum:

“Moved to care center of our hosp on friday. During the night on that friday, he fell and was rushed to ER. Exrays were taken and we were told he didn’t re-injure the break. He re-coop’ed at another care center and came home abt two weeks ago.”

I think this is fun. “Coop” as related to the transitive verb the means “to pen in” (often used w/ “up”), perhaps on the theory that hens are cozy and comfy and safe in a coop? And that someone staying safely in the hospital is similarly comfy?

“recoup” is in the dictionary as a synonym for “recuperate”, from an extension perhaps of the “regain” idea, or simply as a well-established eggcorn (since recoup comes from “coupare,” “to cut” (also the source of “cope”) ; and recuperate from “recuperare, related to “recover”)

I don’t know if there’s enough to make it a genuine eggcorn. But I like it as one.

I see lots of “recoop” for “recoup” (the financial sense).

Do i have legal rights to recoop cost from my neighbor for the debris his trees dump allover my property?

But I also see some health ones:

How long does it take to recoop from breast aumentation?

a chiropractor wrote:

It sounds like it is a strained muscle that keeps getting worse with working out, it could be due to improper form and excess working out without adequate recoop time.

Re: recoop vs. recoup (why not recupe? for recuperate)

Was just about to post recoop, turned up this thread. I was going to only post it as a reshaping, as the eggcornocity is uncertain.
The example I found:
“In those situations, Ebay makes you jump through hoops to recoop your money from them”
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/08/20 … ctiveness/

The coop in recoup could possibly be seen as similar to a coop, a pen… as if you are somehow securing your money… but it could very possibly be simply a spelling error.
