'parboil' - an ancient eggcorn?

‘Parboil’ now means to partly or preliminarily cook by boiling. According to the OED it’s from the Latin ‘perbullirer, ” ‘to boil thoroughly,’ confused with PART.” An eggcornish interpretation reversed the meaning, roughly.
