'the saurus' for 'thesaurus'

Not exactly an eggcorn, this goes in that unnamed category of errors committed by people who have read a word but never heard it used.

I also recommend to look up words in a dictionary and the saurus.

Another amusing, related one:

Peters Page providing a Dictionary/Theosaurus and Calculator.

Perhaps he is home with his theosaurus picking out a new name….

beyond any thing our minds can begin to grasp (had to look in a theosaurus for grasp). It is definitely a lot trickier than most would think!

If I could figure out a plausible imagery connection I suppose it would be a good eggcorn, but somehow divine lizards and lists of synonyms don’t connect yet for me.

we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)
