'the long whole' for 'the long haul'

To view an event or decision over the long haul is to take an extended temporal perspective, so as to see the ultimate, entire, (whole) effects of that event or decision. Examples:

I doubt that they are references to the ceilings, but “over the long HALL” gets 308 hits on Google as well.
