Gluten for punishment

On a private mailing list I’m on, somebody mentioned they were a “gluten for punishment”. I’m not sure if this is just a misspelling or an eggcorn, but it was so hilarious I had to share. Looks like it’s been used before, both intentionally and not:

Re: Gluten for punishment

I don’t see how it could be an eggcorn, because the meaning connection doesn’t seem to be there, but it’s a cute misspelling! There’s a pun in there somewhere…

Re: Gluten for punishment

If you were gluten-intolerant, it would be a very good eggcorn!

Re: Gluten for punishment

Possibly said by Marie Antoinette? The punishment being the guillotine. (Oh dear I’m now struggling to stop myself from saying anything about pain being the French word for bread.)

Does cake not have gluten?

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)

Yes, but not nearly as much as bread, David. Bread flour has maybe 14 percent protein, while cake flour has (IIRC) maybe 8 percent so that the end product remains tender.

... If I fight with myself and lose, does that also mean that part of me won?
