“Kid gloves†is fertile ground for reshapings – we’ve had “kit gloves†and “kitten gloves,†but as far as I can tell this one is new. When you’re dealing with humans, at least, treating them with kid gloves often implies kindness/gentleness. Since the vowels of “kid†and “kind†sound so different, this may be committed most often by people who’ve read the phrase more than they’ve heard it. And in fact it seems to be one of those regionalisms passed around among non-native speakers – a number of the hits appear to have originated in South Asia or Africa. “With kind gloves†gets around 25 ughits, but both the total and the false positives rise if you drop the “with.†Examples:

I was in the golf profession for 7 years and got the priviledge of meeting Tiger and seeing him on several occasions and the guy is first class. He gives all of his competitors credit, treats kids with kind gloves, does millions of dollars in charity every year, and most importantly keeps himself off the rap sheet!!

Agreed, it’s pretty much got to arise in the written sphere, and also agreed, that’s a perfectly legitimate subtype of eggcorn. Nice!
