"wonton" for "wanton"

From the Boston Globe Magazine January 25, 2009: A story about looking up old lovers on Facebook

“His memory of me was of a wonton seductress who owned her sexuality. . . ” I guess they were careful, else she might have “grown big-bellied with the wonton wind” from the mysterious East. Perhaps they sailed along the bounding mein?

OK, I don’t suppose it’s an eggcorn, and it may just be a typo. Googling “wonton” got me nowhere. But I’ve rarely laughed so hard at any actual eggcorn.

Re: "wonton" for "wanton"

Well, you know, “the quickest way to a man’s heart” and all that—I guess wontons would work as well as anything. They’d probably work on me—at least the spicy ones.

I ran into a curious claim in the Wikipedia article on wontons:

In Minnesota, Louisiana, California, Virginia, Florida, Illinois, New York and parts of Iowa, fried wontons are often filled with cream cheese.

My first thought was, “All of California, but only parts of Iowa? Which parts?” And my second thought was, “Hey, that’s almost certainly original research! A clear violation of Wikipedia rules!” In any case, I’m pretty sure my local municipality has a law against cream-cheese-filled fried wontons.
