get crackling

This is the day I’ve always feared. ¶ Come on, no time to lose. Let’s get crackling!

A committee, that’s what we need. An action group, some gummint funding, public meetings, consultation with iwi. Then a Draft Strategic Policy Document looking at important stuff like what would happen to our carbon footprint if we made the mid-winter switch. We need to get crackling – if there’s any left. But not now. Not today.

I’m not sure what cracking has to do with getting going at a smart pace, though I have some kind of image of a whip cracking to make sure a cart-pulling horse moves along at a spanking pace. But getting a fire crackling is a good image for me, too, for getting a process to where it goes along at a great rate.
.
Most hits have to do with pig cracklings or cracklings audiophiles hear. Some examples I’m not sure about. E.g.

One of my friends did the murthy last time and we were going to do it for this time too. Need to get crackling on that :) …

Nuts and bolts: time to get crackling on your furniture.

A murti is an image of a Hindu divinity, in this case a pottery image. Were they punning w.r.t. a crackled finish on the pottery? Or on the furniture? I couldn’t get the original file in the second case to see if context would clear it up.

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)
