The roots of epicanthic suggest that it designs the “upper lip” of the eye. Others have made this logical and poetic shift of imagery. Not only are there eyelips, but also eyeslips. I think the latter originates as eyes-lips and not eye-slips in most cases, though I do like the slippery image of eye slips.

Comparison of the eyelids with the mouthlips seems very natural semantics to me. Of course I’m doubtless prejudiced: that is precisely what they are called in Nawatl: _īx-ten_ is ‘eye-lip’.
