The odd but ubiquitous custom of issuing rebates- ceremoniously returning part of a purchase price to a customer- must act as an inducement to buy, perhaps even as a kind of ‘bait.’ Examples:

THIS ONE is normally 74.88 but after the 10 bucks mail in rebait from sandisk its only 64 bucks.
