'gamefully employed' for 'gainfully employed'

‘Gainful’ and ‘gainfully’ are odd words that, as far as I know, occur only as part of this idiom. 500+ gits:

I am gamefully employed in software (interestingly SAP is our biggest customer) but I am looking to use my energy and talents for something more meaningful.

Anyway, hope you’re gamefully employed and doing well.

You do not need a Union to be gamefully employed in the U.S. any longer, but you do need a company to provide the jobs.

Re: 'gamefully employed' for 'gainfully employed'

If somebody is gamefully employed writing video-game software I would suspect a purposeful pun. Otherwise I do not see the meaning connection: is the idea that a gamefully-employed person at least has a chance of winning a good living?

Re: 'gamefully employed' for 'gainfully employed'

“Gain” and “game” share significant semantic space. We game in order to gain. We gain against others playing the same game. Our gains are our winnings from a game. And so on. I see enough lexical bridges to warrant an eggcorn call.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

gamefully employed is in the Database already… directed to game/gain ...otherwise I would have submitted it long ago.
