Two wonderful manglings —both belonging to extensive families, e.g. — that were reported to me today:

half of one, 5 dozen of the other

OK. Two others of my very favorites, both from the same friend, years ago now:
[commenting on his tendency to impulsiveness:] I guess I just go ahead where fools fear to tremble.
[to go with an independently collected “Who am I to cast fingers?â€] After all, there by the grace of God, except for me, go I.

My friend C. and I still laugh about the sign we saw (in approx. 1980-81?) in a recently remodeled department store in Minneapolis: “The Stationary Department has Moved.” Alas, before cellphones, ubiquitous pocket cameras, etc.
With same friend, overheard in an upscale pizza place in the late 80s: “Now what brainchild thought that up?” We can still incapacitate ourselves laughing over those two in particular.
I also used to work with a woman who always said, “six of one and twelve of the other,” and no amount of explaining it to her could reveal why it was so funny. And so useless at meaning what she wanted it to mean.
