Oh, yes, that’s sad. One almost doesn’t want to add any language-related commentary.

I’ve been leaving aside errors of the “children’s mishearing” type. After all, children are still in the process of learning to use increasingly specialized vocabulary. Not that adults aren’t—the boundaries are, once more, vague. On this site, at any rate, the substitution is presented advertently, in full knowledge of the medical term.
