"two-bit shell" for "two-bit shill"

“John McCain may have finally admitted he is a two-bit shell of a leader…”

http://wonkette.com/431291/john-mccain-admits

”...turning the two-bit shell of a VSX (Venture Stock Exchange) company into a serious oilsands contender.”

http://languageinstinct.blogspot.com/20 … rocks.html

Not 100% sure this is really an eggcorn, since both examples I was able to find could reasonably be combinations of a correct usage of “two-bit” with a correct usage of “shell of a(n) x”; however, “two-bit shill” is a common enough phrase that it seems most likely that “two-bit shell” is a reinterpretation of it.

Re: "two-bit shell" for "two-bit shill"

Looks good to me, despite its rarity. Other hits were for a two-bit shell game, but it’s hard to say if there’s any cross-fertilization going on.
