refear << revere

The English “revere,” meaning to respect or to reverence, derives (via French) from a Latin term that means, literally, “re-fear.” A few English speakers, as we see below, have anglicized the word to “refear.” Beadwof 1, Erasmus 0.

Anime forum: “For instance broli is actually refeared as legendery all the way from the beggining”

Automatic weapon forum: “ordering one online is more problematic as you cannot check for the infamous canted front sight/gas block or the other quality touches for which Century AK builds have become known and refeared ”

Blog comment: “Kane lost his credibility when he lost his mask, though he is still refeared as “The Big Red Monster”.”

Literary discussion: “.Remember that the original Peter Pan book’s events take place in late 19th centurie but Captain James Hook is refeared as the only man “the Sea Cook” was afraid of.”

Blog entry: “Harry is truly refeared by his people, they should make him President for life!”

Re: refear << revere

Fascinating. Don’t know why this one didn’t excite more reverence the first time through. It frightens me real good.
