Re: limelime for limelight

Welcome to the forum, ayeroxor. I suspect that no one has commented on limelime because its origin is not evident. An eggcorn should present some sort of alternative understanding or imagery of the target word. There are many instances of limelime on the web – do you have any idea what the users might be thinking? It might be an ‘error of perseveration’ as the linguists put it.

Re: limelime for limelight

I heard “lime life” for “limelight”

(some time ago on the Tyra Banks Show: uttered by athlete Dennis Rodman)

Anyone who titles his second autobiography “I Should Be Dead By Now” gets a free pass. Another of his pronouncements: “At that moment I tamed my whole life around.”

The presence of dating board LimeLife makes looking for unalloyed corn difficult and at the same time has created a huge pool of future eggcorners. This one looks like another genuine hit.

Oops, thanks Kem. Vitamin sea! Avowedly true.

The limelime is on the need for the acorn somewhere in the post.
