"Deflock" for defrock

It surprises me that this one is not yet in our chester drawers. Before it was a dress, a frock was first a monk’s habit. Deflocked, as a substitute for defrocked, is a fairly amusing understanding of the situation of pastors literally divested, not only of their vestments but of their congregation. One more for the reliquary.

Hester did a good job of keeping this nearly 25yr comic vet surprised. Can’t say I saw the “twist”, if you call it that, of the deflocked Priest having the deformed child.

Wow—an instant classic. This moves right into my list of favorite eggcorns.

And I also like the merging of “to heed” and “to take heed of” in that final citation. I found a number of other instances, though there is of course the possibility that this is the result of simple omission of “take.”
