Burred’s post here: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/view … hp?id=5296 inspired me to google “wreck room”, looking for eggcorns, and I found some! Out of about 775 supposedly unique hits, maybe one-tenth were possible eggcorns, the rest being obvious puns or names of bars, or of the occasional auto body shop. I think it’s very plausibly an eggcorn because not only are “rec” and “wreck” pronounced identically, but also people may easily imagine that the term refers to a room that the kids “wreck” as they play in it. Some examples:

“It actually wasn’t a den just a small room in the basement on the opposite side of the wreck room.”

“Smoked Up Blonde Blows Me In The College Wreck Room Video”

“Casually adorned in a gray sweatshirt and jeans, he takes a seat within his wreck room/home studio and shuts his eyes…”

“Drunk Teens Turn College Wreck Room Into An Amateur Porno”

“7 day week with Wreck Room is $3500.00 7 day week without Wreck Room is $2500.00”

“Do you have a basement that you’ve been meaning to renovate but you have no idea what will be found in the wreck room?”

Then I googled “wreck center”, and found, again, that around 10% of the hits (60 or so out of 620 supposedly unique hits) were unambiguous eggcorn possibilities. Examples:

“I’m stoked on Matt’s ramp, Otis’s pool, and the hanger bowl aka the John’s island wreck center…”

“i ‘teach’ dance at a wreck center.”

”...Gaffney used to go to a Salvation Army after school program, which was basically an open wreck center.”

“No one recognizes him as the quiet kid who once loved Nicole Renard and hung out with fellow teens at the Wreck Center.”

““When I arrived at the Wreck Center on Saturday, kids had gathered around a silver trophy shaped like a player poised to serve the ball…”

“When I sat down with Hayley outside the camp’s wreck center she told me about her role.”

So, “wreck” for “rec”—another eggcorn that deserves to be added to the list, if anyone starts adding new ones to the list again.
