Coffeecino for cappucino

Produced by a young person I work with, based on aural interpretation of a word that she has not seen or understood when it’s been written out. Eggcorn?

Re: Coffeecino for cappucino

When I first looked at this switch, I thought the sound of “cappuccino” and “coffeecino” was too far apart to be a credible eggcorn. But /p/ and /f/ are both labials, and both voiceless. The transition isn’t all that difficult.

A bigger problem is the one I referred to under the “flingshot” post: I can’t see any examples on the web that seem to be inadvertent errors. The semantic and sound space is stained with trade names and deliberate puns. You might query your eggcorner to see if s/he was exposed to any of the puns.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Re: Coffeecino for cappucino

From a Reddit eggcorn thread:

“I’ll have a cappucino and a laté.. on second thought, make that two cups of cino”

Edit: Oops.
