"Husher" for usher

The role of the husher is to keep people quiet during the movie, obviously.

“Hey where you going the movies not done!!!”,I could hear the husher shhhh him. [...] Until a movie husher came to me,He smiled with his hat pulled tightly on.

Varun O2 can seat 20’000 to 22’000 but it can adapt to less, the husher who placed us actually told me the arena’s capacity was reduced to something like 15’000ish I

Re: "Husher" for usher

Here’s someone who uses the “an” article with the “husher” spelling:

Google Groups forum: “I am interested in serving as an husher during the service.”

Either the person speaks one of the UK dialects that adds a random “h” to words beginning with vowels or there is some disagreement between sound and spelling (i.e., sounding the word as “ush-er” but writing it as though the word contained a “hush”).

Re: "Husher" for usher

I can’t offer much in defence/defense of husher as someone who hushes rather than ushes. There is the otherwise unaccountable spelling as husher in Wally Lamb’s bestseller, I Know This Much Is True, here for example.

Re: "Husher" for usher

“Husher” in Wally Lamb’s text is probably an intentional pun put in the mouth of his speaker. Characters in his novels speak/think in Holden Caulfieldish dialect.

I think “usher” >> “husher” is a first-class eggcorn candidate. It’s a bit thin on the ground, though, and the web evidence is polluted with puns.

Here it is as a my-kids-say-the-darndest-things story.
