steal your courage

We’ve had steal trap and steeled lips have been mentioned, but I didn’t find this one:

it also helped him steal his determination and it took only two hours of preparations until he was on his way

Shutting the engine down so violently he nearly snapped the key, he stared at the porn shop, stealing his courage for one last meeting.

He took a deep breath, stealing his courage for what was to come.

Stealing her courage, she marches into the tent, and all the officers stare at her. ‘I am here in my father’s stead,’

Do you rob yourself of stored courage to spend it (or blow it) on the current situation? That might help explain the feeling of depletion after a situation requiring courage has passed. Or is there some other semantic connection going on here? (The bidirectional misspelling/malapropism steel <> steal is common enough.)

She forced her mind to gather some small amount of her own wits together. Then, the slightly alarmed genius brain stormed for something to say. Pushing aside her pain and stilling her courage, she ordered, “That will… not be necessary. … he-Saiyans
