"carry on" for carrion

I only found one really clear example:

Like a lot of bottom feeders, they’ll eat carry on from the ocean floor.

I suppose the perp could be thinking that, if carrion is a dead critter that’s still considered edible, it “carries on” being meat instead of being relegated to the status of garbage quite yet.

I know, it’s a bit of a long shot. You eggcornistas can decide if you want to eat it or turn up your noses.
