'off the beat and track' for 'off the beaten track'

I suppose it would be possible to be on a track which is not the beaten one, ‘off the beaten track’, as opposed to not being on any track or beat at all, ‘off the beat and track’, but I prefer a more musical interpretation of ‘beat’ which renders the eggcornish idiom a little more interesting. Whether those using it are entertaining this alternative imagery is another matter…

Re: 'off the beat and track' for 'off the beaten track'

There is also a sense of beat which is a close synonym of track: as in a policeman’s beat. Wonder if that might be active too/instead.

That was my first thought, that it was influenced by reinforcing pairs like ‘hue and cry’, ‘damn and blast’ or ‘rack/wrack and ruin’, but as usual I placed the emphasis on the least likely but most tempting…

Sorry, I see now that you did mention it: I just didn’t catch it.

Re: 'off the beat and track' for 'off the beaten track'

Btw, a related one is

I enjoy travels off the beating path, rarely with groups.

Venturing off the beating path is exciting and an enticing option. But driving on foreign roads may be complicated

Canoe Kayak Raft Tube Outfitters in Tennessee¶ Off The Beating Path Adventures 3072 Slabtown Rd, Mountain City, TN

Comforting and serene off the beating path yet close to the fun. Home has 2 bedrooms.

TripAdvisor forums – Great off the beating track destination – Visit TripAdvisor , your source for the web’s best unbiased reviews of vacations, hotels

I suppose it can be taken as a path or track for beating, which people beat (until it is beaten) with their feat when they visit it in groves as they are want to due.

There are even more references to ‘off the beat and path’ rather than track, including, to my shygrin, an entry in the Eggcorn Database.
I notice that ‘bitter retreat’ has 234 ghits and wonder whether ‘beat a retreat’ may be exerting some influence. There are a few examples where they actually team up:

There are also 42 ughits for ‘off the bitten track’ which I initially read as spelling errors but on reflection I’m supposing could refer to tracks which have not been tasted or had any bites taken from them ie new, virgin or otherwise unblemished, unbitten…
