"gather" for gander

Found in the wild today while mindlessly scrolling. Taking a gander apparently derives from the gooseneck nature of the goose’s neck, allowing it to have a really good look around. Taking a “gather” would be an intelligence gathering effort, I presume. About a dozen hits as “take/took a gather at”.

So, I went and, and I kind of took a gather at it.

take out 30 minutes every week to do a larger spending audit where you set aside the effort to take a gather at the complete view of where you are going

Re: "gather" for gander

“Th” for “nd” seems strange. But I can’t think what else could be behind the substitution. Unless it’s some metaphor based on taking up a gathering in garments.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
