'tinsel strength' for 'tensile strength'

Because it’s long and stringy, tinsel will have a measurable tensile strength (but not much). 500+ ghits:

Re: 'tinsel strength' for 'tensile strength'

tinsel is also long, long and skinny—a similar shape to wires used for hooks, nylon fibers, or rayon fibers.

And “tensile” means relating to or involving tension-which you would create by grabbing both ends and pulling, right? The way you can with tenc-tinsel (geez, now I can’t even TYPE the word right!)

Some other examples don’t have that same “pull on both ends/long and stringy” vibe, but I vote this as an eggcorn.
