See and eye dog

I didn’t “see” this one using the search feature here, so thought I’d give it a go and hope it is, in fact, an eggcorn. Here is the context: “I can understand a see and eye dog..but a pet that is not a service animal just is crazy.”

Aside from the “see and eye dog,” I like the conclusion that a pet that’s not a service animal must be crazy. I’m still trying to parse “see and eye,” in any case.

Re: See and eye dog

“See and eye” dog is a good addition to our largish collection of “in/and” and “ing/and” substitutions. David B pulled together a few of these last year: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/view … hp?id=4913

While on the topic of “and” errors, I see that Mark Liberman took on the “case and point” chestnut a few days ago: http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=3067

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
