I could have sworn that we had a nest for all the avian eggcorns, beyond eggcorn itself, but couldn’t find it. Here’s a new addition to christen the list then. The teal green- and teal blue-winged teals are sitting ducks for a misapprehension of their name. This hit is from the 19th century, from the depths of the egg-collecting mania..
The Shoveller or Spoonbill Duck (Spatula clypeata) the American Widgeon (Mareca americana) the Green Winged Deal (Nettion Carolinensis) the Blue Winged Deal (Querquedula discors), and the Mallard (Anas Boschas), were breeding in or near the marshes and their eggs occasionally obtained.

Birds of a feather: the liar bird, calling birds, swinging penguin, wobbler, chicken guinea and swan flu, beak and call, brood force and dovecourt, a cuvée, a red heron, a downward sparrow, have a pigeon for, awespicious, thin as a rail, a laughing stork, camp robin, peakhawk, chick pea, oriole window, collard dove, fledged out, ostretch, a poultry amount, assorted falconry terms, an eyas for a neias, and the offspray.
I didn’t strain myself collecting these; there are surely others.

I saw today a report of a green-winged tail. Aerodynamically interesting, but most of the hits are from non-native speakers.

David, until you added “green-winged tail”, I hadn’t figured out that “deal” should have been “teal”, since all the names were strange, so I didn’t get the eggcorn. Now I can enjoy it. Thanks.
